Race History
The Trinity Free Clinic 5K was originated in 2002 as the original fundraiser for the then one year old Trinity Free Clinic. The first race was held on October 26th with 300 participants and the inaugural winners were: Michael Smith in the men's division at 15:41, and Jennifer Plaff in the women's division at 19:11. Steve and Maria Genco, along with Rosemary Cantwell, were the original directors of the race.
The race has grown over the past 10 years and is known for a flat, fast, US Track and Field certified course, pre race DJ, indoor awards area and some of the best door-prizes of any 5K race. We are a family friendly 5K, but our participants include past 500 Festival Mini-Marathon champions as well. Our current course record holders are David Horawth with 15:18 in 2005 and Erin Vergara, who set a new women's mark of 16:22 in 2010 while winning the entire race. Sadly, 2010 also marked the passing of one of our original founders, Rosemary Cantwell. Her smile and dedication to our race will live with us forever.
In 2011, we not only celebrate the 10th anniversary of the race, but the growing of the Trinity Free Clinic itself which has transitioned into its new facility: The Matthew 25 Center on 146th St. in Carmel, IN. Thank to all of those runners and walkers who have participated in the past and all of those who will participate in the future!
